The Reading Team
The Reading Team's free After-School Program for students in grades K-5 helps children at high risk of reading failure to become strong and enthusiastic readers, writers, listeners, and speakers while developing an enjoyment of reading that will support their success in school and in life. Since opening its doors in 2001, the Reading Team has helped more than 13,000 Harlem children achieve substantial and lasting academic progress. Funding from MFF supports planning for expansion as the program enters its third decade.
"My son is now in honors English. He started at the Reading Team at age 4 and the solid literacy-building did him wonders. My middle child wrote a poem that got published in a local newspaper while at the Reading Team. And the little one who is still at Reading Team is now above reading level for her grade in school. The Reading Team has allowed all of my children to become confident and self-sufficient in their reading and writing."
