New Settlement
New Settlement's Leadership Program for Girls and Young Women provides a safe and supportive environment for girls and young women, ages 10-18+ of the Mount Eden community and surrounding Bronx neighborhoods. The after school and summer program is led by young women who are program alumni and includes health and wellness, adventure learning, STEM, college readiness, and social justice-themed arts. These offerings promote peer leadership, self-confidence, positive risk-taking, healthy decision making, and community engagement.
MMF funding is helping New Settlement expand and strengthen program components for high school students that combine college and career readiness with health and wellness counseling, financial literacy, and violence prevention training.
"At New Settlement we are deeply committed to building the resilience, fortitude, and aspirations of girls and young women of our Bronx community. We are all very proud of the young women who come through this program and are especially grateful to those who have returned after college to work for this program and inspire the next generation of young women succeed." --Rigaud Noel, Executive Director, New Settlement
